Marigold Tagetes (Mixed) – Care Guide (100mm Pots)

Botanical Name: Tagetes spp.
Common Name: Marigold (Mixed Varieties)
Flower Colours: Yellow, orange, gold, and bi-colour
Bloom Time: Spring to late autumn

Light Requirements

  • Prefers full sun – at least 6 hours daily

  • Can tolerate partial shade but flowers best with maximum light

Watering

  • Water when the top 2–3cm of soil feels dry

  • Keep soil moderately moist, especially during hot weather

  • Avoid overwatering – marigolds dislike soggy soil

Feeding

  • Feed every 3–4 weeks with a balanced liquid fertilizer

  • Avoid overfeeding – too much nitrogen may reduce flowering

Deadheading & Maintenance

  • Deadhead spent blooms regularly to encourage more flowers

  • Trim leggy or overgrown stems to maintain a compact shape

  • Remove any yellowing leaves or damaged growth

Pests & Problems

  • Generally pest-resistant

  • Can occasionally attract:

    • Aphids

    • Spider mites

    • Whiteflies (especially in dry, sheltered spots)

Marigolds are also known to repel garden pests, making them a great companion plant.

Growing in 100mm Pots

  • Ensure pots have good drainage

  • Use a lightweight potting mix

  • Perfect for small patio displays, window sills, or garden bed edges

  • May need repotting or transplanting as they grow larger

Seasonal Notes

  • Grown as an annual in most regions

  • Will die back in frost – replant each spring

  • Can be started indoors early in the season and moved out after frost

Tips

  • Excellent for pollinator gardens, edging, and containers

  • Combine with herbs or veggies as a natural pest deterrent

  • Easy to grow and great for kids or beginner gardeners

Returns & Refunds

Our plants are considered a 'perishable item' so unfortunately we do not accept refunds. Please make sure that your purchase is final, and you understand the risk when shipping plants. It's assumed in our T&C's that you understand how to care for plants that have been shipped. That being said- we aren't unreasonable if any major damage happens and you provide photos while still boxed we can open a case with Australia Post.
